Aperture is specialized in digital camera photos. And: no preview of vector EPS files and many others. Perhaps this could be a possibility to convert (hierarchical) catalog sets of EM into key words of EM (with some work in EM first to convert the catalog sets into keywords and rebuild the hierarchical structure in Aperture by hand?). And keywords can have a hierarchical structure in Aperture. The only thing that is imported fine from EM's important cataloguing information (beside standard IPTC fields) are the keywords and the description. Next minus: Aperture can show the number of assets in a project (good), but with nested project folders, it does not show the sum of assets in the higher folder level (bad). I use it in german.) So the most important catalogue information of EM is lost!!! Bad, bad bad. So you cannot import your ratings of EM, or am I wrong? The same with the colour labels of EM (are the called "markers" in the english version of EM? – I don't know. Next disappointment: ratings (with stars) of EM are not shown in Aperture - and you even see nowhere the rating field of EM. But I didn't test what happens if you move a folder. At least, Aperture still finds a picture if you rename it in the finder. You can convert a folder structure into a project structure (good), but these two things are not linked, right (bad)? So if you rename a project folder in Aperture, the folder name on the volume stays untouched. And you can't manage the folder structure of your hard disc in aperture, because it only knows "projects". Aperture shows less information than Photoshop for example with its file information command, where you can see at least the expression media metadata. E.g.: There seems to be no chance to see the expression media CATALOG SETS oder the PEOPLE field. Did you try it out? I did today (there is a 30-day-trial version of Aperture available!) and was not impressed at all of the metadata feature and its DAM features. But I have keep trying it out with different scenarios.
